The Asus VivoTab runs the full version of Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system and features a 10-inch, 1366 x 768 display. At $499, it's aimed squarely at Apple's iPad.
You'll find an Intel Atom processor (1.8GHz), a 9.5-hour battery, NFC for adding peripherals like keyboards, and 64GB of internal memory. Asus throws in 32GB of their WebStorage cloud service for free for three years with the purchase of this tablet as well. Rounding the feature set are a pair of stereo speakers, an 8-megapixel main camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Pay an extra $110 and you can use the VivoSmart with the "TranSleeve Keyboard" accessory and transform the tablet into a Windows 8 notebook.
Reviewers really liked this particular Windows 8 slate. It was, uniformly, hailed as fun and enjoyable to use -- words not always associated with technology. It may not measure up to a Retina-touting iPad, though, so shoppers looking for the highest performance tablet experience may want to look elsewhere. But Windows fans should have a winning device on their hands.
