Sony's Alpha NEX 6 is a mirrorless camera system delivering many of the benefits of a d-SLR (interchangeable lenses, advanced image controls, etc.) into a slimmer, more compact body. It boasts a 16-megapixel image sensor, built-in Wi-Fi, the ability to run camera apps and HD video recording at 1080p.
For those just dabbling in more advanced photography, the NEX 6 offers a "Photo Creativity" interface which lets you preview various photo effects in real time on the camera's 3-inch display. You'll enjoy continuous shooting at 3 frames per second in addition to Sony's Sweep Panorama mode for automatically stitching together panoramic images in-camera.
The NEX 6 retails for $999 and includes a 16-50mm lens.
Reviewers really liked Sony's latest mirrorless effort, praising its design, performance and above all, image quality. It lost some points for poor Wi-Fi and apps implementation, but those appeared to be mostly quibbles on an otherwise strong offering.
