Consumer-level digital SLRs are slowly catching up to compacts (and smartphones) in the HD video department. Canon's latest Rebel T4i SLR focuses (if you will) many of its improvements on video recording. There's a new autofocus engine that will work with a pair of new lenses to deliver smoother, more accurate (and quieter) autofocus while you've got the video rolling.
This Rebel is also speedier than its predecessors, clocking in at five frames per second (fps). You'll find a 3-inch touch screen display that can be rotated away from the camera body for framing those difficult-to-reach shots. It's not just an ordinary touch screen but a capacitive multitouch screen, so you can pinch and zoom on images and tap through the menu as you would on a smartphone. The 18-megapixel T4i can be had with an 18-135mm lens for $1,199.
