Forget hybrids and electric vehicles, you can get 84 miles per gallon just by shrinking your car down to bite-sized proportions. The three-wheel Elio -- developed by Elio Motors -- does just that. This two-seater is powered by a one liter, 70 horsepower engine that's still capable of reaching a top speed of 100 miles per hour while ranging up to 670 miles on a single tank of gas.

Unlike hybrids and electric vehicles, the Elio is also dirt cheap. The starting price is $6,800. Elio Motoros also promises that despite its tiny size, the car sports three airbags, a reinforced roll-cage frame and a 50 percent larger crush zone than similarly-sized vehicles.

So who can fit in the car? The company claims it's suitable for "95 percent of all men" and that they've packed a 6.8-foot former college basketball player inside as well as a 6.3-foot, 325 pound man in there and they "loved it."

The Elio is due next year. It will be made in America -- Shreveport, Louisiana to be precise. Check out it on the pages that follow.
